What it does
The agent connects to a mailbox over IMAP, judges how important each new message is, and sends a Telegram notification for the ones that deserve attention. Everything else is collected into one daily summary. From Telegram you can mark a message read, move it to Trash, or teach the agent to ignore similar mail in future.
Why it needs full mailbox access
Google grants IMAP access only through the https://mail.google.com/ scope. The agent uses it to read messages, to set the seen flag when you press “Mark read”, and to move a message to Trash when you ask. It never sends mail on your behalf.
Who runs it
Each person runs their own copy on their own server, with their own credentials. There is no shared service and no central database: the operator of an installation is the only person with access to the mail it reads. The source code is open: github.com/paperspell/email-assistant.
